The Vietnam Immigration Department has issued a notice granting foreigners who entered under the visa exemption category, electronic visa, or tourist visa from March 1, 2020 to the present an “automatic extension” through June 30, 2021. Foreigners who entered Vietnam prior to March 1, 2020 may also be considered for an extension through June 30, 2021 if they meet one of the following conditions:
- The foreigner must prove that they are stranded in Vietnam due to the Covid-19 certified by their Embassy or Consulate;
- Certification from a Vietnam government authority on being quarantined and treated for Covid-19; or
- There are other reasons that prevent the foreigner from leaving.
Foreigners remaining in Vietnam during their “automatic extension” are required to find a temporary residence and provide updated medical declarations in accordance with Vietnamese regulations.
