Can I send my Absentee Ballot to a U.S. Embassy or Consulate for the Upcoming Presidential Election?

We have previously discussed who is eligible to vote in U.S. elections and how American citizens abroad (i.e. Vietnam, the Philippines, and Taiwan) can send their ballots by mail or use designated dropboxes to vote for their presidential and state and local candidates.

U.S. citizens who are unable to physically drop off their ballots at certain locations in Vietnam, the Philippines and Taiwan may also mail their ballots directly to the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, the U.S. Embassy in Manila, or the American Institute in Taiwan in Taipei at the following addresses:

When sending sealed ballots to the addresses above, registered voters will need two envelopes. The first (larger) envelope will be addressed to the respective American Citizen Services Unit. The second (smaller) envelope is to the local state election office along with the enclosed ballot inside. The second internal envelope must also include sufficient pre-paid postage to be delivered to the local election office from the U.S. sorting facility from where the ballot will be mailed.

Voters may use their own stamps or print their own postage paid envelope. Both envelopes must be sealed and mailed together to the American Citizen Services Unit. Once received, the ballot (along with others) will be sent via diplomatic mail pouch.

Traveling outside the United States after a Form I-829 Petition by Investor to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status (“I-829 Petition”) denial is highly risky and strongly discouraged. While you, the investor and your family members, legally retain your Conditional Lawful Permanent Resident (“CPR”) status until a final administrative order of removal is issued by an immigration judge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”) enforces strict border policies, although improper, that can challenge your ability to return. Filing the I-829 Petition is the final step for investors in the U.S. EB-5 immigrant investor visa program. An approval of the I-829 Petition removes the two-year conditional restrictions on an investor’s residency, granting lawful permanent resident status, and allowing the investor, their spouse, and unmarried children under 21 to receive a 10-year “Green Card”.
