Rescheduling Biometric Services Appointments

The United States Immigration and Citizenship Services (“USCIS”) has announced it has closed the Biometrics Processing Unit in Alexandria, Virginia and no longer accepts written requests to reschedule biometric services appointments at application support centers. You must now call the USCIS Contact Center to reschedule a biometric services appointment. The USCIS states that this change reduces paperwork and helps it track requests more efficiently.

To reschedule a Biometric Services Appointment, you must call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283 (TTY 800-767-1833) before the date and time of your original appointment and establish good cause for rescheduling. If you fail to call before your scheduled appointment or fail to establish good cause, USCIS may not reschedule the appointment. If you fail to appear for your originally scheduled biometric services appointment and the appointment is not rescheduled, USCIS will consider the related application, petition, or request abandoned and, as a result, it may deny it.

For the call, you should prepare information about your case, such as your name, date of birth and receipt number (and USCIS Online Account Number and alien registration number, if applicable). Note that the Call Center now uses an Interactive Voice Response (“IVR”) system which requires the caller to give voice commands. Only English and Spanish is supported right now. When prompted for a response, you should say “reschedule interview” and wait for a live person to answer.

David Enterline Receives I-829 Petition Award For 2024 From IIUSA

What is Trump’s Self-Deportation Executive Order?

On May 9, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order (“EO”) aimed at incentivizing undocumented migrants to voluntarily leave the United States in exchange for a cash bonus and a free flight. The EO, entitled Project Homecoming authorizes the U.S. government to pay a $1000 stipend for a one-way plane ticket to any foreign country of their choice. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (“DHS”), it costs an average of $17,000 to arrest, detain and deport an undocumented migrant. The program, which may be challenged in the federal courts, is estimated to save, according to the Trump Administration, billions of dollars in government expenses as Trump continues to push the administration’s mass deportation policy. National Visa Center/American Institute In Taiwan No Longer Accepting Taiwan Birth Certificates

Sometime in 2024, the United States Department of State (“DOS”) quietly updated its requirements for birth certificates in the DOS Reciprocity Schedule for Taiwan. Birth Certificates seem no longer required or accepted for Taiwan nationals. The only acceptable document for proof of birth is now an Individual Household Registration Transcript. The Individual Household Registration Transcript is part of Taiwan’s greater Household Registration System to which all Taiwan nationals must have registered with the Taiwan government. The Transcript provides a record of a household’s members and their relationship to each other, including details like birth, marriage, and death. Moreover, DOS National Visa Center is not accepting bilingual Chinese and English versions which are now widely available. The National Visa Center is requiring an original Chinese version and an original English version issued by the Household Registration Office, although we have been successful submitting a translation of the original Chinese version.
