What is the World Cup Visa and FIFA Pass and Do These Allow Fans to Go to the U.S. to Attend Matches?

What Is the “World Cup Visa”?

Many fans planning to attend the FIFA World Cup wonder whether a special “World Cup visa” is required. The answer is no. The United States, Canada, and Mexico do not issue a separate visa for World Cup attendees. Every fan hoping to attend a match in any of these countries must comply with the standard immigration and entry requirements of the country.

No Special World Cup Visa Exists

The FIFA World Cup is a major sporting event, but attending a match does not create a special visa category. Everyone who travels to watch World Cup matches must follow the regular entry rules of that country.

For example:

  • United States: Most visitors will require a B-1/B-2 Visitor Visa unless they are eligible to travel under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) using an approved ESTA.
  • Canada: Visitors generally must obtain a Temporary Resident Visa or, if eligible, an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
  • Mexico: Visitors must satisfy Mexico’s standard visitor entry requirements, which may include obtaining a visitor visa depending on nationality.

Travelers should check the entry rules before the tournament, as visa processing times can vary significantly.

A Match Ticket Is Not a Visa

Many people believe that buying a World Cup ticket allows them to enter the host country automatically. This is not true. A World Cup ticket is not a visa or an immigration document. Having a ticket does not guarantee entry into the country or exempt travelers from normal visa requirements. All visitors must still meet the immigration requirements of the country they plan to visit.

The U.S. FIFA PASS Priority Appointment System

To prepare for more visa applications during the World Cup, the U.S. government created the FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System.

What Is FIFA PASS?

FIFA PASS is a program for World Cup fans who need a U.S. visitor visa. It helps eligible applicants schedule visa interview appointments faster at U.S. embassies and consulates. This program is mainly for people who already have official World Cup match tickets and need their visas before the tournament.+

Who Qualifies?

Eligibility generally extends to individuals who have purchased official FIFA World Cup tickets through:

  • FIFA’s official ticketing platform; or
  • An authorized FIFA hospitality provider.

Applicants must be able to verify their ticket purchase when requesting a priority appointment.

Who Does Not Need FIFA PASS?

Certain travelers do not need to utilize the FIFA PASS system, including:

  • Individuals who already possess a valid U.S. visa;
  • Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries who may travel using an approved ESTA;
  • Travelers who otherwise have valid immigration status permitting entry into the United States.

Does FIFA PASS Guarantee Visa Approval?

No.

FIFA PASS only helps applicants schedule an earlier visa interview appointment. It does not remove the normal visa requirements or guarantee visa approval.

Applicants must still prove that they qualify for a B-1/B-2 visitor visa under U.S. immigration law. They should be prepared to explain their travel purpose and show that they are eligible to enter the United States and that they intend to return to their home country when the purpose of their visit is complete.

Planning Ahead Is Critical

The FIFA World Cup is expected to bring many visitors from around the world. People who plan to attend matches should check visa requirements early and apply for any needed travel documents as soon as possible.

FIFA PASS may help eligible fans schedule visa interviews faster, but they do not replace the visa application process.

Each traveler is still responsible for obtaining the correct visa or travel authorization before their trip.

USCIS Proposes EB-5 Regulations to the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022

The United States  Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) has published aNotice of Proposed Rulemaking that would formally implement regulations to the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022 (“RIA”) governing the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program and the EB-5 Regional Center Program. The proposed regulations represent the most significant regulatory update to the EB-5 program since Congress enacted the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act in 2022. Although USCIS has already been administering the program under the RIA for several years, many of its existing regulations predate the legislation. The proposed regulations are intended to bring the current regulations into conformity with current law and provide greater clarity for EB-5 investors, Regional Centers, developers, and immigration practitioners. Interested parties may submit comments on the proposed regulations through August 31, 2026. What Is the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022? The RIA fundamentally reshaped the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program. In addition to

Supreme Court Finds Trump’s Executive Order Restricting Birthright Citizenship Unconstitutional

The United States Supreme Court has formally struck down President Donald Trump’s Executive Order (“EO”) 14160 restricting birthright citizenship. By a 6-3 vote, the Court held that the long-settled understanding of the 14th Amendment, which was adopted after the American Civil War, holds that anyone born on American soil is a natural U.S. citizen with very few exceptions. The Supreme Court’s decision comes after a series of setbacks from federal judges at the district and circuit court levels that began immediately after President Trump signed the EO hours after he was sworn in as the 47th President.  Writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts commented “[C]itizenship, then and now, was the right to have rights—to freely participate in our political community. The Framers of the Fourteenth Amendment extended that promise to ‘every free-born person in this land. We keep that promise today.” Chief Justice Roberts, known as a conservative
