Announcement: Partial Resumption of Non-Immigrant Visa Processing in Vietnam

Following the resumption of limited immigrant visa processing on June 29^th, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi and the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City will resume partial non-immigrant visa processing beginning July 15th. Applicants applying for the following visas will be allowed to schedule appointments:

F-1 student visas;
M-1 vocational visas;
J-1 visas (alien physician, government visitor, international visitor, research scholar, secondary school and university exchange student) but not J-1 intercultural exchange applying as interns, trainees, teachers, camp counselors, au pairs, and summer work travel programs because these come under Trump’s immigration ban;
C-1/D crewmember visas;
E treaty trader and investors;
O extraordinary ability visas; and
P athletes and artists.

F-1 student visa applicants whose classes are 100 percent online will not qualify for a student visa. Interviews for all other non-immigrant visa categories including B-1/ B-2 visitor visas remain suspended.

DOS to Suspend Immigrant Visa Applications from Seventy-Five Countries. Philippines and Vietnam Not Included in the Suspension

The United States Department of State (“DOS”) has announced that it will freeze immigrant visa processing for seventy-five (75) countries citing concerns that citizens from those countries might become a public charge and require government financial assistance upon entering the United States. The directive instructs DOS consular officers to pause immigrant visa applications under existing laws. It does not affect nonimmigrant visa applications including B-1/B-2 Visitor Visas, L-1 Intracompany Transfer Visas, F and J Student Visas, and E-1/E-2 Treaty Trader and Investor Visas.
